“Do not go gentle into that good night...”
These words, written by Dylan Thomas, were repeated to me by my husband many times after he was diagnosed with lung cancer in December of 1995. These words echo in my ears and remind me of the importance of life.
Sadly, on December 2, 1996, Jim lost his battle with his illness. His courage and unflagging spirit during that year left an indelible image on my heart and mind; one which I would like to share with as many people as possible.
This is the reason the James W. Lindemer Endowed Scholarship Foundation has been established.
Two funds have been set up to benefit minority students who meet the academic standards required to attend a prestigious university, but lack the financial support that would enable them to get a foothold in the world of higher education. One fund has been established for the Altoona Area School District, the school that gave Jim the opportunity to further his education. The other fund is through Drexel University, where Jim earned both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Civil Engineering. |
